Harold Edstrom, known by friends and family as “Harry”, was the unexpected Station Manager of KSTO Radio. He was a Junior. Harry was born on February 9th, 1997 to parents Eric and Jamie. Throughout his upbringing in Plano, Texas, Harry’s love for sports was befallen by a love for music. While attending college at St. Olaf, Harry studied religion, announced the NCAA home soccer games, and enjoyed pretending to read important books in the Nicholas Cage memorial cafe. Although Harry fancied himself as a singer/songwriter by hobby, friends and family estimate that his hobby was only ever motivated by self-gain and social capital than an actual love of emotional expression. Harry’s colleagues were collectively skeptical as to just why he was admitted to the position of Station Manager, but many concede that it could be worse.
Harry is remembered by his roommates Alex, Carlos and Paddy. His show will be held on Wednesday nights 8-9pm
Assistant Station Manager
Sumner is KSTO’s radiologist- working on organizing events with other stations, decorating the studio space, photographs, and other tasks around the station. He hosts “Sumner’s Superhits” every semester, a show filled with his music and mumbling alone in the studio. Techno interests him. Sumner studies SoAn and film, find him in the Cage eating plants.
While not basking by salt lamps, Zeos loves to stop by tide pools and field record marine life. Nothing is better than the sound of crustaceans rising from salt water for vengeance. Contact for technical assistance or help in the studio. He is co-director of Salt Lamp Sessions on KSTO from 5-6pm on Saturdays.
Kathryn, sometimes Kath, never Kate or Katie, is a central Mass native who prides herself on living only an hour away from anything interesting or fun like Boston or the ocean or that one ski mountain halfway across the state. She’s a self described alt-rock-junkie with a fondness for indie folk, 80’s music and anything just a touch psychedelic or funky. Tune into her radio show, AltEtc Thursday’s at 8 to hear all this and more, and probably her roommate, who really is a Katie.
Social Media Director
Emma isn’t sure where she’s from, but she knows it’s somewhere in the Midwest. In her spare time, she can be found staring gloomily at lunch lines, listening to girl bands, and seeking out opportunities to talk about her dogs. She’s also a SoAn/Art History double major and a SARN advocate, but she’s probably still less busy than you. Her radio show, Revolution Girl Style Now, is Sundays at 8 with her roommate and wife, Analeise.
Pete is a production assistant and the MEC liaison. He enjoys music, circus, and reading. He’s from Virginia… pretty cool, eh? Not really. Se vi parolas esperanton, vi devus babili kun Pete. #AliceisthebetterColtrane
Sophie, affectionately known as the school bully, is a junior religion major. When she’s not working at KSTO, she’s trying to get homework done (but really just listening to music), volunteering at SARN, or bothering Thea. She loves all music and cohosts Gramp’s Corner at 6 on Fridays with Emma DPR. Tune in if you enjoy two old ladies griping, the Killers, or if you want to know if one of us has a crush on you. Call in and ask; we’ll tell you.
DNNR Party Director
Born on the last day of ‘94 in Cairo, Egypt, Essam is an international student from Libya (not a dual citizen) majoring in Economics, Norwegian, and Social Studies Education w/ concentration in Race & Ethnic Studies. He came to St. Olaf after residing in Norway for two years, which initiated his interest in Norway’s history, culture, literature and society. On campus, he is student teaching in the Fall semester at Apple Valley High School, and starts to appear on campus after 4pm. He plays music with a newly established campus band “Bazeen” with a fellow KSTO staff Stuart Gordon. He loves Psychedelic Rock and Hard Rock when played by the trio — Zeppelin, Floyd, and AC/DC. He doesn’t watch much TV or movies, unless they are directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Now you might ask what is DNNR PRTY and what is Essam’s role in KSTO:
DNNR PRTY is a campus organization that aims at supporting campus musicians who are not affiliated with the music department. In other words, DNNR PRTY records, mixes, and produces campus bands’ and musicians’ original songs and publishes them on bandcamp and YouTube to help artist launch their potential musical portfolios. With KSTO, he wants to create various recording spaces on campus for those musicians to get their music recorded.
